To be ourselves causes us to be exiled by others, yet to comply with what others wants causes us to be exiled from ourselves.
                   Dr Clarissa Pinkola Estes

A new restlessness may emerge here, depending upon one’s personality and circumstances. There may be a desire to share whatever one has gained through life to this point. What has been developed or realised may also be taken to greater subtlety in this cycle, like the way a flower unfolds the bud that was developing prior to this moment.

We may reassess the results of what we are doing externally in our lives. Relationships, careers, habits, ways we interact are all put under scrutiny and modified or changed. It may be a time of facing up to what does and does not satisfy us.

A second lunar node occurs in this time period - a time when the sun, moon and earth are in the same position as when you were born. A lunar node is an opportunity to reconnect with your life purpose, which may include a crisis of meaning, so notice what significant events, feelings or visions occur at age 37.

Age 41 can also bring a shift in lifestyle, priorities or purpose.

Exercises

Respond to the following prompts in your journal:

What was your life like in these years?

What was important to you?

How did you shift and change from previous years?

What goals and desires were still active?

What was birthed in these years?

Who did you believe yourself to be at this time?

Were there any life depleting moments?

What happened at age 42? Was there any crisis or upheaval and how did you experience that?

After completing the prompts, divide a page into two columns. The headings for each column should be ‘negative’ and ‘positive’. In the ‘negative’ column, write an equal list of negative experiences, emotions, themes, actions and reactions from this first septennial. In the ‘positive’ column write the positive experiences, themes, actions, gifts, relationships from this septennial.

Then, take a few moments with your eyes closed to feel into the negative list, considering each item you have written down. Then do the same for the positive list. Now, allow the two lists to merge – try to sit above or apart from the two lists and allow them to merge into one list, being, or energy – however you like to think about it. From this place, ask for a seed image to emerge, which represents the summation of this septennial, of the two lists and the merged lists.

Your seed image may appear in your mind visually, or as thoughts describing the image, or in another way. Go with the first image that arises and open your eyes and draw it on the next round piece of paper.

All land is Sacred. We pay our respects to the Original People upon the Land where we live and work, the Darug Darkinjung and Wiradjuri peoples and acknowledge the tragedy that colonisation brought about.

We also acknowledge the enduring wisdom of Caring for Country and Caring for Each Other that has been taught to us by our Indigenous Teachers and Friends.

Here at HearthGround we honour the ancient spirits of this Land by sharing the stories of place with the belief that we as a human community can ground new stories that have Reverence and Respect as a foundation for All of Life.
